Editorial Policy

Home Smitten publishes guides for people dealing with a real problem in their home. This page sets out how we choose sources, check numbers, update pages and handle mistakes.

Where our facts come from

We start with the primary source: the manufacturer's manual or support page for the product, the official agency for health and safety advice, or the published data for a statistic. Where we name a number, a time or a size, it comes from one of those and the page lists it in a sources box at the end.

Forum posts and other websites help us find the questions people ask. They are not the source for a fact.

How we check a page

  • Every figure in a title, description or heading has to appear in the article itself.
  • Safety advice follows the manufacturer or the relevant agency. If sources disagree, we say so.
  • Where the answer depends on the model, the local code or the situation, the page says that instead of guessing.

Updates

A page gets a new updated date only when its content changes: a corrected fact, new data or a rewritten section. Design and template changes do not change the date.

Corrections

If something is wrong or out of date, use the contact page. We check the claim against the source, fix the page and update its date.

How the site is paid for

The site earns money from advertising and from some affiliate links to products. Neither changes what a guide says. Affiliate links are marked as sponsored, and the about page explains them. Our privacy policy covers the advertising partners.
